If you're looking for that special someone, but have no idea where to start, Internet dating may be your answer. The Internet provides an absolute perfect way to meet new people and find the person you desire. Internet dating is the best way to connect with people, without having to meet them face to face unless you choose to. Not only do Internet dating services enable you to connect with people, but they will also save you a great deal of time, as you don't have to go on physical dates just to get to know someone.
When you join an online dating site, your first step should be to post a personal profile or personal advertisement and a picture of yourself.
The most important thing to remember when writing your profile is that you must be honest. Not only when writing your profile, but also the photo you post. If you're not honest from the beginning, you will be wasting your money, as the truth will come out.
When writing your headline, always avoid using the words 'hello' or 'hi there,' as they are too common. Try using humor and make your headline stand out. If you need some ideas, look through some of the profiles already posted. Remember, if your headline doesn't get attention, the rest of your profile will not be read.
The online dating service you join will provide you with a limited amount of space to post your profile and photo, so make sure you use it wisely. Your profile should be between 200 and 250 words. The first 150 to 200 words should tell your readers all about you. The rest of the words should describe the person you would like to meet.
The photo you post with your profile should actually be of YOU and not someone else. You would be amazed by how many people post a photo of someone they think looks better than them in hopes of meeting someone. Again, you will be wasting your money, as the truth will come out. The photo you post should show you relaxed and smiling. It would be wise to have your picture taken by a professional photographer who specializes in photos that will be posted online.
When you contact a potential dating partner or are contacted by a potential dating partner, make sure that you take it slow and easy. You need to be patient and take some time to get to know a person before you start making plans to meet, as in the beginning you don't know anything about this person.
Remember, predators do not waste a lot of time trying to extract personal information. If you don't provide your real name, and the name of the city in which you really reside quickly, predators will quickly lose interest and move on to easier targets. If your online dating partner is NOT a predator, then he or she will also want to take things slow and not start exchanging personal information too quickly.
In addition, make sure that you only send emails and chat using the on-site email and chat features of the online dating site in which you are a member. Never give out your ISP email address or use other chat programs like ICQ or AIM, as this will reveal your true identity.
After a period of months, not days or weeks...remember predators, and when you have determined that your online dating partner is someone that you would like to meet in person, it is best to schedule that first face to face meeting in a public place and during daylight hours. It is also wise to schedule a very short first meeting - a cup of coffee rather than a meal or an entire evening together.
If it is the real thing, it will grow. If it turns out not to be the real thing, you likely dodged a bullet. Time and patience are the keys to successful internet dating.
