Becoming the Alpha Male: Learning to Be the Go To Guy

To become an alpha male, you must become the "go to guy" within your circles. What I mean by that is that you must be the person everyone thinks to call first whenever they have a problem.

Why?

Because it puts you in a position of dominance, where you get a chance to strengthen your connections, and help someone solve one of their problems.

In order to become a dominant alpha male, you must take the necessary steps towards becoming the one resource that everyone needs - someone who is irreplaceable - you must become the go to guy.

You must learn to network and increase your contacts among various people in various lines of work and positions of power, so that when people come to you with a problem, you can "call a friend of yours" who has the answer.

Whether it's someone who wants to buy a truck, and you just happen to know a friend of yours who is a truck salesman or whether it's a friend who needs financial advice, and you know a financial advisor, you must be the one they come to when they need advice.

Here's how to do it:

When a friend of yours expresses a need, offer to help him saying that you'll call a buddy of yours who may have the answer.

Never - and I mean never - just give your friend who has the problem the name and phone number of the person who has the answer.

To do so would be to cut yourself out of the loop, lessening your position as the go to guy. You want to be the go between for as long as possible, so that it is obvious that without your help, neither side would get any of the possible benefits that may result from this problem.

After you offer to help your friend, you must call the buddy of yours with the answer. At this point, you must open the lines of communication with him, and ask him for some advice, telling him that you have a buddy who needs help.

Once the lines of communication are opened, and both parties know you're involved, you can try and set up a meeting. If at all possible, try to attend the meeting and introduce both of them - it shows that without you, there would be no solution.

If a meeting doesn't work, or if it would be really awkward for you to be with both of them, pass on the contact info to whichever party asks for it and leave the whole situation alone for a while.

After some time has gone by, follow up with both parties - just to see how things went.

You want to see how the problem was resolved, but this also reminds them that if they did find a solution, that you were responsible for making the connection that brought about this solution.

You can see that you must be very tactful in how you approach the situation, and in exactly what you say.

This is a win-win situation for you. For your friend with the problem, you showed him that you've got contacts that work and that you can be trusted to help when he has a problem.

For your buddy with the solution, you've shown yourself to be an invaluable source, as you referred him business, showing him that you can be counted on to produce results.

It also shows him that you know a lot of people and that you remember him when those people have problems that he can help them with.

In both cases, both of your friends "owe you" and you've solidified your position as the go to guy. In some cases, they may even brag about you to others, spreading your reputation as a go to guy, which adds even more prestige to your position as alpha male.
