You had a fabulous time. Dinner was great. The conversation was interesting and he was engaging. It was cute how nervous he was when he leaned in to kiss you goodnight and how he fumbled with his “can I call you” line. You can’t wait to tell your girlfriends all about it. And, then, you start wondering…
“Hmmm, what will *he* tell his friends about the date…about me?”
At some time or another, all women who are dating have wondered what their boyfriends *really* tell their guy friends about their dates.
With women, we cook up these romantic scenes…vignettes of best friends sharing a delicious conversation at an outside café as they sip their lattes or divulging intimate details with their closest girlfriends as they sit on a comfy couch with a glass of wine. Romanticizing about their boyfriends. Exploring every detail of their time spent together. Dissecting everything even down to specific words and what they might mean!
So, what does your boyfriend tell his friends about you? Are the treacherously testosterone-laden images we conjure up of locker rooms, poker tables, ball games, bathrooms, and bars as the places where guys tell their “war stories” amongst high fives and ahhh yeahs true? Amid the smell of cheap cigars and cheaper beer does your boyfriend exaggerate his conquests and sum up the evening not by the events or the experience but by whether or not he “got some.”
Yes! There is an element of truth there. No smoke without fire, right? But let’s take a closer look at the type of questions your friends might ask you after a date and compare them with what your boyfriend’s friends might ask him. You might be amazed to discover that in their post-date disclosures, both sexes are pretty much talking about the very same thing…however, they’re using very different terminology. And, it’s this terminology that has caused the stereotypical images to linger long past their prime.
What Your Friends Ask
What does he do for a living?
Did he pay?
Did he kiss you goodnight?
Do you think he’ll call?
Was he cute?
Did you have sex?
Will you sleep with him next time?
What His Friend’s Ask
Was she crazy like the last one?
What did the meal cost?
Did you get all mushy?
Are you going to call her?
Was she hot?
Did you have sex?
Think you’ll get some next time?
Wait a minute! If you’re thinking that both sexes are saying the same thing just differently, then you’re on to something!
In fact, you’re right. Culturally, men often have a different language than women do to ask their questions. And, as you can see, Mars and Venus might still be kind of far apart, but the fact is, friends are friends and they can only utilize the tools they know to show their interest in their friendships.
Yes, there is some truth to the boastful stories some guys tell their friends about their dates, but of one thing you can be certain; when a man finds a woman he likes, it doesn’t matter how much his mates prod and ply him for juicy details about the date because this is the one time he will just shrug them off!
Yes, guys may love to boast about their conquests and more often than not the ones who boast the loudest are the ones getting the least so they have to make up stories to impress their friends with!
But, when you charm a guy, spend an evening filled with intimate conversation, when together you ignite your passions for life, when you share your deepest dreams and expectations there is no way he’ll want to share you with his friends. Yes, the guy who is charmed will definitely shrug his friends off when they try to pry for details…
