Have you heard of a website that allows you to hook up with total strangers randomly? If you haven’t, let me tell you about a very interesting site that strives to connect you to a total random stranger who you may have never met gettingrandom is a website that provides users with anonymous chat.
Other websites have been created that do a similar thing such as Omegle, but Getting Random takes it one-step further. Getting Random has a Facebook connection that allows a Facebook application to be utilized. You can click on one of the random portraits at the bottom of the screen and you will be taken to your Facebook login screen. This will provide you with some other features that are not present on the regular webpage.
If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can create one or just use the normal website. Getting Random is a site that puts you together with a random connection from anywhere in the world. When you first get to the site, you have a couple of choices. You can select that you are a girl or a guy and if you want to talk to a girl, guy, or it doesn’t matter. Next, you will be randomly connected to someone for some stranger chat.
If you want to tell your regular friends about the website (not your new stranger friends), just click on the handy icon at the top that says invite a friend. A new window will appear that will allow you to send e-mails to everyone on your address book (if you give the site access to it - probably shouldn’t) or you can enter single e-mail addresses yourself. If you aren’t worried about your friends getting a lot of spam - just use your address book.
Now let’s look at the freedom the website provides you with. If you have even been to a masked dance where everyone’s identity was hidden, you would have seen something very interesting happen. People, who would normally be afraid to ask someone out, have no fear of rejection since the asker’s identity is unknown. When dancing or talking to the other person, neither party is able to make a judgment based on the person’s identity. Therefore, people have to rely on other factors. If the mask were removed, I would guarantee more than half the people would be shocked at whom they had ended up with.
The Getting Random website could be compared to that masked ball. Everyone’s identity is unknown and you have a greater confidence when chatting to stranger. You are not worried that if you say something stupid, that the other person will laugh at you. Even if they did, who cares, they don’t know who you are!
