SMS dating comes with all the same pitfalls and problems that traditional dating comes with, and that can include a more than overzealous suitor. When romantic text messages become creepy, there are some things you can do to stop them.
Never string them along. If you are not interested, you are not interested. Never pass the time or cure your own boredom by replying to romantic text messages with flirty texting that may give the impression you are interested. Rather, simply do not respond at all, or respond only to say that you are not interested.
If you have stopped responding, but the romantic text messages still keep coming, you will have to get firm. Send a very strongly worded text message asking him or her to stop texting you. You may say something like - Go away (or something stronger!). Please do not text me anymore. If you continue to text me, I will be forced to report you to the authorities. Keep it short and free of vulgarity. Avoid using any terminology that could be misinterpreted.
Start keeping a log of the unwanted romantic text messages you are receiving. List the times, dates, and amounts of texts you are getting from this person. If you have the ability to save or download the texts to the computer, do so for documentation purposes.
If you had been using a mobile phone dating service at the time you began texting this person, review all the policies of that service. If the service has a customer service phone number or email, attempt to contact the service to see if they can stop these unwanted romantic text messages. If you have not yet exchanged contact numbers with this person and he or she is still contacting you through the cell phone dating service, then the service may be able to help.
If you had already exchanged contact information with this person, and he or she is sending the romantic text messages directly to your cell phone, try contacting your mobile phone service provider. They may be able to do something to block this persons text messages and phone calls.
If the romantic text messages at any time become at all threatening, you should consider filing a police report. It is especially important to go to the police if this person knows where you live, work, or regularly hang out. Just by having the police let this person know they have been contacted may stop the text messaging.
If all else fails and you are unable to get any help with these unwanted romantic text messages, you may want to consider changing your phone number. As this can be somewhat of a hassle, you would only want to consider this if the text messages were becoming completely out of hand or threatening.
Always remember that if the person already knows enough about you, especially if he or she knows where you live, then simply changing your number does not mean you are completely safe. This is why it is always a good idea to let the local authorities know about the problem.
