No one likes to break up. It isn't fun for anyone. This doesn't have to be the end of it though and there are still things you can do if you want your ex back. Your ex will likely be a little evasive, but that doesn't mean there aren't things you can do.
The first thing to do is give them a little bit of space. It's counter-intuitive but things will be delicate right at the beginning. At this time you need to evaluate and locate the cause of the break up. Without figuring out this bit of information you'll likely find yourself broken up again and that's just no good.
Next you need to stop feeling bad, brooding, and a real buzz kill to be around. Your ex was not attracted to this version of you and this version will not get them back. What you should do instead is go out with some friends and get out of the house. Rediscover yourself as an individual and be fun to be around again. These actions will likely get back to your ex and they'll be surprised at how well you're taking the break up. Your ex may miss you and want you back in their lives when they see how much fun you're having and that your world didn't end when the relationship was broken off.
Finally, when the chance arrives to get them back you need to have a plan. Something you already know you're going to say. This may not be your first meeting, however, since the first few of those should focus on small talk and reacquainting yourself with your ex. With the harder moments of meeting out of the way, when you sense it's time to act, know what you're going to say and how you're going to say it.
Even if you didn't do some of the things outlined above there is still a chance you and your ex can get back together. It will take work and time, but keep at it. If you're serious about getting them back you can make it happen.
