But I was always a go-getter, used to getting what I wanted in life. So after getting over the initial heartbreak, I started to think about how to win my ex-boyfriend back. But I had no idea how. So I turned to the wisest man I know – my father.
I am thankful that I come from a close knit family and that even at the age of 24, I could talk to dad about such personal things. At the same time, I knew I had to change myself. I had to grow up in certain areas of my life and put in some inner beauty into my character. For this I sought the help of my best friend. She agreed to act as my accountability partner. I gave her a list of the types of behavior I wanted to avoid and she had my full permission to reprimand me if I ever indulge in those things. So she almost stuck to me like glue for the next 4 weeks or so. Slowly I felt myself change in some crucial areas of my life.
It was only after 5 weeks that I tried calling my ex-boyfriend again. But I had to find a non-threatening way of doing so. That’s where I took advantage of what my dad told me about a man’s ego. I asked him to help me in something he was particularly skilled at – playing the guitar. Sure, my fingers hurt but it was worth it because in showing me the ropes, he was in his element. My guitar lessons went on for sometime during which we started to talk , joke and laugh together again (mostly at my guitar fumbles). After almost 2 months, I plucked up the courage to ask him about ‘us’. I braced myself for any cold shoulder treatment but to my surprise, he said he was thinking about us, too. We exchanged apologies and promises for the future and this led us to eventually resuming our relationship.
