New Standby Gifts – Avoiding the Old Clichés on Valentine's Day

No doubt about it, no matter how hard we try, there are always times when we just don’t get round to getting that Valentine’s present in time. Some people worry so much about what to get, what will be the ‘perfect’ Valentine’s present that they wind up getting nothing, and sometimes, it will just creep up on us without realising!

Before now, the fallback Valentine’s presents have always been chocolates or flowers – they have always been seen as a ‘safe option’ for people not sure on what to buy as a Valentine’s present, and for everyone who forgot, they are the things you can rush out and grab in 10 minutes when you do remember!

However, your partner will know these things two, and these gifts will have exactly that connotation.

However, there are other fallback gift ideas that will delight as well as save your ass!

Spa Treatment days are a relatively safe Valentine’s present – sure, they are not for everyone (but then, some people are allergic to flowers!), but odds are, unless she has told you otherwise (women are good like that!), she would love spend a day being pampered.

Better yet, you can often book these the day before, and the information pack will arrive in the post the next day!

A Valentine’s Weekend away can be booked just a few days before (you might have to pay a little more, but it serves you right for taking so long!), and is often a great way to spend some time together, making it a great Valentine’s present.

Book a hotel somewhere your partner wants to go, or likes to go, and just spend the weekend there together.

Turn your phone off for the weekend, and do things she wants to do while you are there – that way, you don’t have to plan anything other than booking the hotel, and yet it still looks like you have been thoughtful!

Good Gifts are a relatively new idea, where you actually buy a ‘gift’ for someone else (usually to benefit a 3rd world country or the homeless), like a chicken run and 5 chickens, or the gift of a sight for a blind child in India.

These gifts can be bought the day before, and your partner can be sent an e-card, or a physical card detailing what the gift is. It’s something unique, and often the gift can still relate to something your partner is interested in – for example, if your partner is a keen Gardner, why not get a vegetable garden for a poor family in Africa?

These can be thoughtful gifts that make a difference and show your sensitive side, all at the same time!

Everyone will find some time where they need a safe gift, and fast, however, by following our suggestions above, you can avoid the old clichés that everyone receives, but no one appreciates.
