Things to do a Week before Prom

When your prom is less than ten days away, it’s a good idea to run through a basic checklist to make sure that everything is in place. On the day of prom, you will be busy getting ready, so to make sure everything turns out well, confirm your plans and double-check everything.

Confirm Appointments:
If you are getting your hair, nails or make-up done, confirm the appointment time. If your appointments are scheduled back-to-back, make sure you have ample time to drive from one place to another, and remember that getting your hair or make-up done may take more time that you think.

Practice doing your Hair and Makeup:
If you are going to be doing your own hair and makeup, do a trial run to see how long it takes. You don’t want to be rushed on the day of prom, and having an idea of how much time you will need to get ready will avoid stress and allow you to plan accordingly.

Double-Check your Prom Dress:
If you bought your dress more than a month ago, make sure your prom dress isn’t wrinkled. Prom dresses, much like Quinceanera dresses or pageant dresses, need to be properly hanged in a closet. If your dress is wrinkled, hang the dress in your bathroom, blast hot water in the shower and shut the bathroom door. The steam in the bathroom will de-wrinkle your prom dress.
Also, try on your dress again to make sure it fits properly. Your weight may have fluctuated slightly. If your dress is tight, don’t worry. A week of healthy eating can help significantly.

Eat Healthfully:
It is important to eat well the week before prom. Make sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals to make you look and feel your best. Also, drinking water will make your skin clearer and more luminous.
- Tip: Take pre-cautions to avoid bloating. Drinking lots of water a week before prom will help. Also, try to avoid soft drinks, gum and sugar-free foods with sorbitol or malitol, especially on the day of prom. These products will cause bloating. Lastly, avoid high-fiber foods on the day of prom, such broccoli, whole-grain wheat, brussel sprouts and cauliflower to avoid bloating.

Confirm Reservations:
Confirm your dinner reservations by calling the restaurant to the number of people in your party and the time. If you are a renting a limo or a driver, confirm the pick-up and drop-off times and locations. Make sure the driver has directions.
- Tip: If you are going with a group of friends, make sure everyone knows what time the limo is leaving--and keep in mind that people may arrive 30 minutes late.

Order a Boutonniere:
Order your date’s boutonniere and if you think it is necessary, remind your date to order a corsage. Also, check-in with your date to decide what time you will be meeting to take pictures.

Double Check your Curfew and After Prom Plans:
Make sure you and your parents have agreed on your curfew time. When it comes closer to the prom date, try to renegotiate with your parents if necessary. Also, get the details on your after-party plans. Will you be staying at someone’s house or a hotel? Who will be attending the after-party, and what will you be doing? If you are planning the party, make sure you have snacks and extra blankets or pillows. If you are attending someone else’s party, get all of the details.

Going through a basic checklist a week before prom will help you stay on top of everything and avoid last-minute stress. Fortunately, finding the perfect prom dress or formal evening gown is often the hardest part. When you are only a week away from prom, all you have to do it double check your previous arrangements.
