Another thing is, you should not pressure the person you are asking for a date. If she says 'no' then you have to respect her decision. Remember that pressure could just lead you to negative outcome.
And also, you have to make sure that you do not stand person up. That means, do not make her to expect for nothing. When you ask for a date, be sure that you mean it and you will provide what should be provided.
Do not treat the person unpleasant if ever you fail to get her 'yes', just move on and do not be bitter with it. Some time, you'll be able to have a successful date, you'll see.
Drinking some beer in order to gain confidence is a 'no' because it may just discourage your date and may push the situation to worse. Be confident, naturally.
Do not ask for a date when she is with her friends. Though, the more the merrier, this is not ideal for a first time date, you need to inculcate privacy.
