In this article I'm going to share with you some of my share tips and strategies to help you with your spread betting and stock market trading. Spread trading is a business and you should treat your business seriously.
Trading via Spread Betting: Spread Betting Tips
Stop Loss - Probably the best thing financial spread betting has to offer but for some reason it's underappreciated and not utilised by all traders. According to latest usage statistics, only 57% of the traders use this feature. Stop loss enables the trader to literally stop his loss by capping his potential losses. We came to learn that a stop loss is the first thing you should look for when placing a bet.
Go with something you know - Are you familiar with the FTSE? No? Common sense dictates that you should avoid betting on something you are not familiar with. You probably hear of oil, gas and gold constantly in the news but this doesn't mean that you know these commodities. The oil price for instance is highly volatile and susceptible to spikes. Start spread trading on companies you can hear and interact with on a daily basis - study the movement of the share price and how news affects the daily movements.
Keep in mind that financial spread betting companies are businesses - Businesses exist to make money and have their interests in mind and not yours. They also have the statistics you don't have about users bets and what traders bet on. This means that you might find attractive spreads on markets that appear attractive for you but in fact this is the company's attempt to draw you to place a bet on something you know nothing about.
There are many financial spread betting companies - Just because a spread betting company is the biggest doesn't mean that it will offer the best spreads; in fact quite often it is the opposite and companies like IG Index and CMC Markets may not offer the narrowest spreads. Other smaller companies like Capital Spreads and WorldsSpreads will work harder for your business so generally offer better value for money. If you are checking financial spread betting offerings, you can find them in our spread betting reviews section.
This is real money you are dealing with - Be careful with your stake sizing, do it sensibly as you might lose your money. Don't start betting large stakes and don't trade when you are upset!
You can make a lot of money with financial spread betting but you can equally lose sizable amounts. Start by trading in small amounts and learn from your mistakes.
Good luck and Good trading!

I'm often asked recurrent questions of whether it is practical to trade with a 4k account and the how to trade sub 100k accounts and I'm surprised so few mention forex as a viable alternative.
