Do you know what penny stock symbols are? If you are thinking about investing in this type of stock and you don’t know what the answer is, now is the time to find out.
Every company with penny stocks to its name has a symbol by which it can be easily identified. So for example, the Precision Petroleum Corporation is known by the letters PPTO. And similarly the Midex Gold Corporation has the letters MXGD to distinguish it from other stocks.
Each company has unique letters for its penny stock. This means you will find it easy to find information on a particular stock. In fact if you look up the name of a company in full, it is harder to find information than it would be by looking up those few letters.
But how did these come about? The answer actually harks back to another time, when the telegraph was the main way of getting information from A to B over a long distance. It is far easier to type out four letters than it is to type out the whole name of a company! And from that simple reason came the stock abbreviations we know today.
Once you start looking at these symbols you will notice that some companies have a fifth symbol attached to them as well. This single symbol tells you a lot about that company, and if you search for it online you will find lists which give you all the meanings.
Every letter of the alphabet is used in this list. Q is one that you should watch out for, because it tells you the company with that letter is in bankruptcy. A and B simply stand for Class A and Class B stocks, X indicates a mutual fund and F stands for a foreign fund. If you are going to invest in penny stocks to any great degree you should certainly make sure you have access to this list and learn what the letters stand for. These alone can save you from making some crucial mistakes owing to a lack of knowledge.
So you can see that the penny stock symbols are used to make life easier when finding specific companies, as you can search directly for them. You will also learn a lot about the company from that final fifth letter, so don’t ignore it. It could make all the difference.
