A fear of the Dentist Is Something That You Should Not Be Embarrassed About

Sedation dentistry basically means that a person is under sedation while undergoing their dental treatments. Such as cavity fillings, dental implants or root canal therapy. You can be lightly sedated with the use of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) for example, and this means that you are still completely conscious but you feel as if you are dreaming and you feel at complete ease. You can also be heavily sedated through the use of IV sedation, which means that you will be constantly monitored while asleep through your treatment.

Sedation dentistry is primarily aimed at people who have an irrational fear of the dentist. The may have a fear of the pain and discomfort that can sometimes be associated with the dentist, or they could just have a fear of the dentist performing procedures within their mouth. Either way sedation dentistry is aimed at helping the patient to feel at ease or comfortable at all times.

A fear of the dentist should not be something that you should be embarrassed about any longer. Your dentist will realise that a fear of any form of the dentist is common and this is why they now offer sedation dentistry as a tool to help to alleviate the fear of the dentist. Dental Implants for example will always be performed under some form of sedation as it is a lengthy procedure and can cause pain if not sedated and controlled properly.

If you feel that sedation dentistry could help you to remove the fear of the dentist, and you can finally undergo treatment that you have been putting off for a while, do not hesitate in contacting your dentist today for a consultation.

No doubt you've seen people whose smile displays a lot of gum tissue. Called a gummy smile or excessive gingival display, this condition can distract from an otherwise attractive smile. A gummy smile makes the teeth appear smaller than they are and the mouth much bigger. No matter how spotlessly white your teeth and beautifully shaped your lips are, you will never be truly comfortable smiling if you have a gummy smile.

No two mouths are the same. The look, elements and the way these elements function inside a person's mouth, as well as any dental problems that may be present differ from those of another individual. Add to that people's varying concepts of what's pleasing or what works for them and you have a dental situation that can run the gamut of simple to most complex. To create a one size, fit-all dental treatment that does not take into consideration such uniqueness is a mark of a bad dental practice.
