Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can provide dramatic changes in the look of your teeth, correcting numerous minor irregularities to restore a perfect, sparkling smile. Also, if you take good care of your porcelain veneers, they can last many years, giving you a long time to enjoy your new look.

Taking good care of your veneers might seem intimidating at first, but you can keep your porcelain veneers in good shape by following a few simple guidelines, such as:

  • Brush and floss diligently and regularly just as you have been taught since you were young.
  • Avoid excessive use of alcohol. Alcohol can dissolve the bonding agent that holds the veneers secure on your teeth.
  • Be sure anyone who cleans your teeth knows you have veneers, and uses equipment that won’t damage the veneers’ surfaces.
  • Don’t bite down on hard objects or chew hard items like ice. This can chip the edges of your veneers or even dislodge them.

Taking good care of your teeth and gums not only will help keep your porcelain veneers strong and intact, it will also help prevent other possible problems from developing that could endanger not only your veneers, but the rest of your mouth.

The top edges of veneers are placed just at the gum line. Keeping your gums healthy will prevent them from receding and drawing back from the tops of the veneers. If the gums recede, not only are the edges of the veneers left exposed and vulnerable to damage, but the appearance of the veneers is compromised. The edges of veneers are the most vulnerable to problems, including chipping and cracking. If decay forms on veneered teeth, it also most often occurs along the edges of the veneers.

Damage to the surface of the veneers can result from using cleaning equipment that’s not appropriate for use with veneers. This damage can cause the surface of the veneers to be roughened or pitted, allowing stains to form more easily. If your veneers become seriously stained, they might need to be replaced to restore your smile.

What Root Canal Treatment Means For You

By: Dr. Jagmail Basrai | 27/12/2009
The root canal procedure deals with the nerves of the teeth, which can be quite painful when infections or injuries occur. The nerves of your teeth are protected by a pulp at the center of them, a small amount of the blood vessels and nerve endings existing slightly above the gum line, within the crown, and the remainder of them traveling down the root of the tooth through the canal.

The Truth About Today’s Cosmetic Dentures

By: Dr. Jagmail Basrai | 27/12/2009
Cosmetic dentures may not always seem like the best option for most patients, as this denotes the permanent loss of all natural teeth at the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Many who are forced to think about this type of solution have been dealing with painful and humiliating tooth loss for years, and have concluded with the help of their dentist that full cosmetic dentures are the most cost effective, permanent, and painless solution available.

What is a Dental Emergency?

By: Dr. Jagmail Basrai | 27/12/2009
The occurrences which constitute a dental emergency are many, so it is important to keep yourself involved with a dental office or professional who offers emergency services to their patients. The parts that make up the tooth are all equally important, and damage to any of them, as well as to the fleshly oral areas which support them, should be cause for immediate assistance.

By: Augie Johnston | 26/12/2009
I have to admit that my teeth used to be yellow. I’m not talking about yellowish. I mean yellow. I could blame the coffee, the cigarettes, or the red wine, but now I get compliments everyday on my white teeth. People always ask me how to get whiter teeth and ask me silly questions like, “Does peroxide whiten teeth?” In case you didn’t know, peroxide will whiten your teeth slightly, but not really even enough to notice and there are some major health risks that go into using peroxide.

Those white teeth systems can cost anywhere from $100 to $200. I bought one, used half of it, and my teeth really were white as snow.

When Penicillin was first broadly marketed in the middle of the last century, it was hailed as a miracle drug. Myopia

By: Erich Shrefler | 19/12/2009 | Vision
Your cornea bends light as it enters your eye. A properly shaped cornea focuses that light on the retina. If you are nearsighted your cornea is either too curved or your eye is too long, causing the light to focus in front of the retina. When the light reaches your retina it has started to spread out again and the image is blurry.

If you dream of freedom from glasses or contact lenses laser vision correction may be the solution for you. LASIK is the most well-known vision correction procedure, but there are several other types of laser vision correction. Astigmatism

By: Erich Shrefler | 19/12/2009 | Vision
If you have blurred vision when looking at objects up close, far away, and in between, it may be astigmatism. Astigmatism causes blurry vision due to an irregularly shaped cornea. Most people have some slight astigmatism but not always enough to cause vision problems.
