Cause And Treatment On Eye Twitching

Posted: Nov 17, 2011 |Comments: 0 |

If your eyelid twitching is persistent and very annoying (like the problem experienced by my patient's wife), you should have an eye exam, because you may need vision correction. If you spend a lot of time on the computer, you also should consider talking to your eye doctor about special computer eyeglasses.

Some reports indicate a lack of certain nutritional substances, such as magnesium, can trigger eyelid spasms. Although these reports lack scientific evidence, I can't rule this out as a possible cause of eyelid twitching. If you suspect a nutritional deficiency may be affecting you, however, I suggest talking this over with your family doctor for expert advice rather than randomly buying over-the-counter nutritional products.

Try to do that with adequate speed, and at the same time, make the movements very light. Imagine that your eyelashes are butterfly's wings. The process of blinking is extremely important to your eyes – it relaxes most of the eye muscles, lubricates and cleanses the eyeballs.

Get some rest to relax the body. Overworked eye muscles and an overtired body can cause the eyes to twitch. Get a full eight hours of sleep at night. Take 15-minute breaks every two hours throughout the day from reading, working on the computer, watching television or any other eye intensive activity. When twitching acts up, go into a dark or dimly lit room to give the eyes a chance to rest.

Reduce stress. Stress brings on eye twitching in some people. If stress seems to be the cause of twitching, practice relaxation techniques to calm yourself. Deep breathing, prayer, listening to classical music and counseling are examples of techniques you can use to reduce stress.

Blepharospasm usually starts with abnormal or excessive blinking that is accompanied by general eye irritation. Early on, the excessive blinking may only occur as a result of being exposed to bright lights, being tired or if you are under a great deal of stress. The frequency of the eye spasms may increase throughout the day.

Most often, the eye twitches because of three common reasons. These are stress, fatigue or intake of caffeine. The condition usually lasts for a couple of days and then is gone. It is helpful during this time to try to get a good amount of rest, try to minimize stress and avoid caffeinated beverages. This can all help make the eye stop twitching more quickly.
