There are a few times in our lives where an accident occurs and a tooth is broker loose from your gum line. The tooth is salvaged and reconstructed back into your mouth by an oral surgeon. There are some situations, however, in which the tooth is lost or not able to be put back in. The choices are very varied in what can be done to repair the gaping hole in your smile. You have every right to leave it as is as well and continue on with your life you can choose to have a procedure known as dental implants.

Teeth are lost in a variety of different ways that require reconstruction with Columbus dental implants. Decay of teeth, periodontitis and a root canal gone wrong are all factors that can lead to tooth loss and a need for a dental implant. People who have had teeth lost to the factors above become really conscious about the missing entity and find it hard at times to smile or even say a word. A missing tooth can also lead to other health issues in the future due to pain and biting difficulties which, in turn, can make a person not want to eat or drink as much as before.

Dental implants in Columbus have many advantages to other choices available for tooth replacement. They are very strong in comparison to their counterparts and are more durable over longer periods of time and wear and tear. Implants can also be effective in working with its counterparts to provide support for single or multiple teeth as well as serve to reduce irritation for senior citizens with dentures. The main advantage with a dental implant is that it is very unnoticeable to the naked eye. Once the procedure is complete, it will be as if the tooth has been a permanent part of the person's mouth since the day it came in.

The dental implants procedure is not as simple as just putting an implant in and replacing a tooth. A dental implant is composed of two parts, a miniature screw made almost entirely out of a titanium based substance and the crown itself. The process begins as a normal dental procedure with the numbing of the jaw line where the tooth loss has taken place. Once that is complete, the dentist than proceeds to drill a hole into the gum line where the former tooth was located. After the drilling is complete, the dentist widens the hole to allow for a comfortable amount of space for the screw and proceeds to place the dental implant into the slot on the jaw line. A protective shield is placed over the dental implant screw for healing purposes and to allow the dental implant to merge with the gum line. Based on future visits, the dentist will determine when it will be time to remove the protective cover and place the crown accordingly.

With the advantages and the process itself shining above the rest of the tooth loss procedures out there, a dental implant is a great choice for the preservation of your beautiful smile.
