My friend John got some porcelain veneers about six months ago. Now he says that his wife complains about a bad smell out of his mouth. First they did not see a connection between the veneers and the problem but that is what can happen sometimes.
John had six of his front teeth fixed with porcelain veneers. He was not happy with his smile anymore. He had got some bad teeth, mostly because of wine and smoking. He also had a little gap between his two front teeth and wanted to lose it.
He went to a good cosmetic dentist in Washington and it did not take long to have it all fixed. That is the advantage of porcelain veneers. It goes incredibly fast and looks great. The downside is the high costs but it was worth the price.
I saw him last week and I must say I was impressed how good they look. Of course, I knew he had them fixed because I knew how they looked before. But for somebody who does not know John, he probably would not be able to tell that he had his teeth fixed. They look natural and not overdone.
The only thin that bothers him is the bad smell. He went back to the dentist to ask for advice. John also had some gum bleeding from time to time and his teeth still were too sensitive. Things that would go away the doctor said at that time.
The dentist checked his teeth and said that John would grind his teeth too much during sleeping. John got some kind of protection he has to wear overnight to protect his teeth. But the dentist discovered another problem. There was also a so called periodontal problem. That means that during the procedure of getting the porcelain veneers right, he accidentally hit the periodontal space. This lead to a disease that was the reason for his bleeding and the bad smell. Nothing serious but annoying of course. After it was fixed the problems were solved.

He was seen by 3 maxillofacial surgeons who said that the teeth cannot be surgically attached because the success rate is so low after more than 8 hours.
