It doesn’t matter how affluent you are anymore, health care costs are rising and coverage benefits are dropping. Quite a few Western countries with organized health care systems are still leaving too many citizens without adequate coverage. Having priority procedures taken care of, like emergency room visits, broken bones, or necessary surgeries often uses up benefits completely. There might be no funds left to cover routine dental care, cosmetic enhancements, or elective surgeries and procedures.

Increasing numbers of people are paying full price for treatments in other countries because the insurance in their own country doesn’t cover the treatments that they need and want, and it’s cheaper to go abroad than pay full price at home. And, the waiting lists for non-emergency procedures is growing longer than the average life span.

One type of treatment that is very conducive to a medical tourism model is dental tourism. Many people may be hesitant to seek medical care or involved surgeries outside of their own country, but, in general, the risks involved with dental treatments tend to be far smaller.

When you are researching the options for dental tourism, one thing will become rather clear. Hungary, in particular Budapest, has grown to be one of the top destinations for dental tourism. Several factors have affected this ranking, including the availability of highly-qualified professional dentists (often with Western training), English-speaking providers, low cost and convenience of travel, very affordable accommodations, and the breathtaking beauty of the area.

Remember when you are planning your dental tourism experience that you need to consider all of the angles involved. Just because one place offers a very cheap deal doesn’t mean it’s the best option. Choose quality along with affordability—this is your health and quality of life at stake, and it’s well worth it to research your options carefully!
