How To Remove Your Invisalign Aligner Without Causing Damage

Many Invisalign users break their aligners, especially during the beginning, due to removing their Invisalign aligners incorrectly. Although removing aligners is quite simple, it can be easily be done wrong as putting too much force on aligners when they are tightly fitted in the beginning, can easily cause them to break. Avoid breaking your expensive aligners by following the recommended removal process and a few useful tips which make the aligners easier to remove.

Remove the aligners carefully by lifting them up at the back (the furthest point where your molars are) at both sides using your index finger and thumb. Put a small amount of pressure to lift them and then gradually lift the other parts of the aligners. When you first use Invisalign, expect the removal to be a bit tricky due to the fact there is little leeway. If you notice particularly hard areas to remove, rather than put pressure on them, remove the easiest part of the Invisalign aligners, then the harder more challenging parts which should be a bit looser than before.

Removal of Invisalign aligners in the first few weeks is not easy. But as your teeth move and you become use to removing the aligners, you should feel at ease over removing them and have little fear of breakage. To help you remove your aligners in the first few weeks with ease, you will need an item that will give you enough grip on the aligners to move them. Since the juices of the mouth often make you lose your grip, use latex gloves or a paper towel to help you grip onto the aligners and gently remove them.

A drier mouth is also better in aiding Invisalign aligner removal. So before you remove your aligners, avoid drinking cold drinks to make sure you mouth is just a little drier. A moist mouth makes it harder to remove aligners, but make sure you are drinking enough and never dehydrate yourself.

Also putting in your aligners first thing at night will mean they are far easier to remove during the day. Aligners do the most work when first put in, thus they are often during this period much tighter and in turn, harder to remove. If the aligners do all the hard work whilst you're fast asleep, you'll barely feel a thing and they will be far easier to remove in the morning.

But the best tip any Invisalign provider can offer is to relax when removing the aligners. Get the dentist to show you exactly how to remove them and go through a few practices with them. This often calms any qualms a patient has over the removal of them.
