Most people get annoyed and cannot sleep when they hear somebody snoring. This has become a nuisance for most of us. The sound produced can be really irritating that you just cannot ignore it. Now there is a sleep disorder that is similar to this one. It also produces a sound that's just frightening. It is like hearing sounds of knives and scythes clashing at each other. The sounds are actually produced by grinding teeth. A number of people do not know that they are doing this in their sleep. Grinding teeth is also known as bruxism, a condition when teeth gnash.

Grinding teeth can both occur in daytime and at night time. The occurrence is more rampant at night. Studies show that grinding teeth is primarily caused by stress. People who deal with high levels of stress develop this condition. This is actually the body's way of releasing stress. The person who suffers from grinding teeth will usually feel soreness on his or her jaw area when they wake up in the morning. They may feel stiffness or pain on their necks. Accompanying this pain are headaches and migraines. The clenching is so strong that it can cause earaches. There are cases wherein it caused the loss of somebody's hearing.

Kids are not spared from grinding teeth. They usually do this since they are still developing their teeth. Ordinarily, kids will outgrow this condition as they get older. Aside from stress, the cause of grinding teeth is due to malocclusion. This is popularly known as a person's overbite and underbite. Also irregularities of a person's jaws and teeth are causing the grinding teeth syndrome.

How can we stop grinding teeth? There are various ways to stop, if not alleviate this condition. The most effective remedy is by the use of mouth guards. The main purpose of mouth guards is to keep the teeth apart. Thus, avoiding gnashing, grinding and clenching. This will definitely protect further damage of teeth or even loss of teeth. It will spare somebody of having to undergo partial or complete dentures, crown replacements and even implants.

One must learn to deal with one's stress. It is best to listen to relaxation or meditation tapes. One must learn to trust and confide suppressed and repressed feelings to a family member, close friend or a counsellor. Venting out these feelings can get rid of the unnecessary anxiety that's causing high stress levels leading to grinding teeth.

Exercise releases toxins and various stresses in the body. A full body massage can even minimize the grinding teeth syndrome. Learn to relax and enjoy life. Keep in mind that smoking and caffeinated drinks can contribute to grinding teeth. So if you can refrain or abstain from these products, please do so.

You then spent the next several minutes looking into the eye piece and fiddling with knobs and small mirrors trying to get it all intp focus. Does this sound familiar?
