What is a Partial Denture?

A partial denture is a denture that replaces missing teeth in the mouth. Partial dentures replace some missing teeth, not all. Partial dentures can be made from chrome or acrylic.

Types of Partial Dentures

There are a few types of partial dentures. The type best for you depends on your individual case. The cosmetic dentist will assess to see what’s best for you. Types are listed below:

Chrome Denture – Made from alloy chromium. The strongest and usually the least bulky of dentures.

Acrylic Dentures – Made from plastic, acrylic dentures are light, cheaper than chrome. The amount of teeth on dentures usually dictates their design.

Immediate Dentures – Made from acrylic and are used to replace teeth to be extracted immediately after tooth extraction.

Benefits of Dentures

Partial dentures provide you with teeth that will help you function, eat, speak and cosmetically enhance your smile. They are removable, easy to clean and comfortable.

Disadvantages of Dentures

The main disadvantages of dentures are that they are not fixed.

Many people believe that dentures look false, move around in the mouth and are uncomfortable. With the latest cosmetic dentistry materials, dentures can be very comfortable, natural and retentive.

It is important to find a good cosmetic dentist to have your dentures made.

How Long Do Dentures Take To Make?

Usually dentures take about 3 -4 visits, however immediate dentures take one visit.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

Immediate dentures are meant to be there for about 3 months but can last much longer. A well made partial denture can last about 10 years.

Alternative to Dentures?

Alternative cosmetic dentistry treatments to replace teeth are dental bridges or dental implants. These depend on the health of the teeth and bone respectively.
