Porcelain Dentistry Is A Great Way To Brighten And Straighten Your Smile

Many people don't feel confident showing off a smile while they have chipped, cracked and even missing teeth, and they have no idea that a solution could be so easy and simple, well there is and that is porcelain dentistry.

Whereas dentistry used to be dominated by metal gold to replace and fix teeth, there is now porcelain. While metal and gold fittings were highly durable and long lasting, many people deemed their appearance to be very unforgiving and very unattractive. Porcelain however resembles the natural colour of your own teeth so as to fit in perfectly and blend in with your teeth making it the preferred choice nowadays for cosmetic dentistry to move forward.

There are three procedures that use porcelain as their main use. These are veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays.

Porcelain veneers are a wafer thin laminate that are applied over the surface of the damaged or worn away tooth.

Not only does the veneer just cover the tooth it protects the cracked tooth, brightens previously discoloured teeth and improves the overall look of your smile.

If your tooth is damaged to the extent that a filling is no longer a viable option, a porcelain crown may be the effective answer to restoring the original shape of your tooth. Porcelain crowns are fitted over the affected tooth to create a new shape, or they can alternatively be applied as a cap for a dental implant.

Inlays and onlays are often used to just correct the surface of a damaged tooth. There is only a small and slight difference between the two. Dental inlays are suitable for the repair of a damaged or decayed tooth surface, while dental onlays are applied as a treatment to extensive decay which reaches one or more top projections of the tooth.

Previously the most common treatment for mouth problems were amalgam fillings, amalgam fillings are comprised of fifty percent Mercury, the most toxic substance in existence. Porcelain restorations are not toxic, are completely safe for your body and retain the integrity of your tooth structure.
