Questions about Instant Orthodontics

Below you will find more frequently asked questions about instant orthodontics.

What is instant orthodontics?

Instant orthodontics is two or more procedures that cosmetic dentists use to fix teeth that are crooked, unevenly spaced, jagged or badly stained. Instead of straightening your teeth by moving them into the correct position, instant orthodontics work by altering the state of your natural teeth. This means that the procedures can be completed just several dentist’s visits. Dr. Hale can use dental crowns, porcelain veneers and dental bonding to make your smile appear straighter, brighter and more aesthetically pleasing.

How do porcelain veneers work?

First, Dr. Hale will meet with you to discuss the results you would like to accomplish. Then an impression will be taken of your natural teeth. From there, individualized porcelain shells will be created that will fit snugly over the front surface of your teeth. Your natural teeth will need to be prepped, or shaved down slightly so that the veneers will bond to them. This makes the process irreversible. Finally, the veneers will be bonded to your teeth, creating the appearance of a picture-perfect smile.

Who is a good candidate for instant orthodontics?

You should keep in mind that not everyone is a good candidate for instant orthodontics. In order for the procedure to be effective you must first have a healthy bite. This can be determined during your initial consultation. If your bite is healthy, you may be a good candidate for instant orthodontics if you:

  • Are dissatisfied with the appearance of your smile
  • Have uneven, jagged or crooked teeth
  • Teeth that are badly stained and unresponsive to tooth whitening
  • Have gaps between your teeth
  • Teeth that are too close together

How long will my instant orthodontics last?

While instant orthodontics will not last forever, they can last for more than a decade if properly taken care of. Porcelain veneers often last 10 to 15. Here are some ways you can ensure the longevity of your instant orthodontics:

· Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly

· Use non-abrasive toothpaste with fluoride

· Minimize staining influences such as coffee, cola, red wine and tobacco

· Do not subject your veneers to excessive forces, like biting hard items or biting and twisting

· Refrain from clenching or grinding your teeth

How much will my instant orthodontics cost?

Porcelain veneers typically cost between $900 and $2,500 per tooth. Dental crowns can cost anywhere between $600 and $3,100, depending on the material used. Dr. Hale offers financing options; we do not want the cost of cosmetic dental care to deter you from achieving the smile of your dreams.
