Rampant Decay - The rehabilitation landmine in cosmetic dentistry

Rampant decay - What is it?

Rampant decay is still prevalent in our population. Once established, it is
difficult to reverse the disease and the result is rapid destruction of tooth
structure. When the teeth of the patient are restored with crowns, the detirioration
continues. It may in fact progress faster.
Rampant decay has multiple causes. Poor oral hygiene, “meth mouth”, Multiple
medications and radiation to the oral cavity are examples.
Restoring a patient with this complex problem can be misleading, with the
clinician noticing multiple areas of decay around recent restorations.
This is the time for you to extract yourself from a downward spiral that can
end badly. Explain to possible complication and refer the patient.
New protocols like the CariScreen device (www.carifree.com) help me with
diagnosis and follow-up. But the actual treatment is still complex and individual.
It would be my pleasure to help you with your patient.

The prosthodontist

One of the overlooked pieces of serious dental treatment is to make sure your dentist is an expert specialist.

Rampant decay is serious Business. You need a serious expert such as Dr. Jonathan Penchas in Houston Texas. For more information on dental specialists- Prosthodontics in your area, go to www.prosthodontics.org

What Is A Prosthodontist? (präs' tho dän' tist) Prosthodontists are experts in the restoration and replacement of teeth using dental implants and dentures. A Prosthodontist is a specialist recognized by the American Dental Association with a minimum of two years of intensive training and research in addition to the doctoral degree in dentistry. Prosthodontics is both an art and a science that requires the doctor to envision replacement teeth to each individual's personality and face.

Why do I need a Prosthodontist?

Because rampant decay is a serious dental problem - You should use an expert.

Would you let your general doctor do your heart surgery? No, you would use an expert. While your general doctor has the legal right to perform your surgery, you would prefer the expert.

The same is true for larger or more complicated dental problems. These should be treated by an expert with formal training, not your general dentist. This expert is the Prosthodontist.
