It may sound silly but it’s true. Your teeth need a good root structure just like your flowers do. What happens to the flowers in your garden when they get attacked by bugs or you don’t water and fertilize them properly? Disease and decay set in, their roots whither and they die.

Now think about your teeth. What happens when they get attacked by bacteria bugs or you don’t brush them regularly? Disease and decay set in, the roots whither and the teeth die. Just like flowers.

Even in the midst of disease and decay, however, there is good news. If the flowers in your garden die, you can dig them up and replace them with new, healthy plants. Likewise, when a tooth dies, it can be removed and replaced with an implant. Dental implants look and act just like the real thing.

Since the roots of your teeth are imbedded in your jaw, removing a tooth with a dead root would leave an open space. If not filled in properly, additional decay and disease could lead to loss of the jawbone itself. Most dental implants are made of titanium, which is great at fusing with the surrounding bone tissue. The basic types of dental implants include:

· Root Form Implants: these are cylindrical (screw-type) implants that are very similar in shape to the natural tooth root and is placed in the space left by the damaged root

· Plate Implants: these are used if the jawbone has deteriorated or the empty root space is too narrow for the more traditional root form implant

· Subperiosteal Implants: these dental implants are reserved for use in serious jawbone deterioration cases and is fairly rare

Once the appropriate dental implant has been inserted, a replacement tooth is added and you’re back to that natural, beautiful smile again. (And, no, the tooth can’t pop out like a denture. Implants are planted – firmly and securely.)

Hopefully, you’re taking really good care of your teeth (and your garden). But, if disease and decay have left you with bad teeth, now you know that there is an easy, permanent, natural-looking solution.

As for your flowers, maybe it’s time to head to the local nursery and buy some bug spray.
