Young teeth are whiter than adult teeth. This is because as humans age, cracks appear in the enamel allowing stains and other debris to get lodged in. These cracks can be caused by chewing, gnashing and acid attacks.
Here are some teeth whitening procedures that can help you have whiter teeth.
- Ask your dentist for in-office whitening. In-office whitening is done by a professional because it involves the use of highly concentrated peroxide solutions. If not used properly, it could lead to gum irritation.
- Use whitening toothpaste. Whitening toothpastes contain bleaching chemicals that regular toothpastes don’t have. Add to that, they have finely ground abrasives.
- Ask your dentist for professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits. Peroxide gels used in these kits are of lower concentration thus making them safe for long time use.
- Use whitening strips. Whitening strips are thin membranes that are covered with some whitening gel. They adhere to teeth following their shape. However, they are not able to penetrate the areas in between teeth so they remain yellowish.
- Avoid food and drinks that leave marks on the enamel. Drinks to avoid are coffee, and tea. Examples of food to avoid are blueberries and cherries. These have heavy pigmentations.
Now that there are many teeth whitening procedures available, there is no reason for you to have yellowish teeth. These tips will not take you long to see positive results.
