The Importance of Dental Care

Posted: Aug 06, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Due to the high cost of dental care in America, many Americans are suffering from a lack of dental care.  There are free dental clinics, but these are few and far between, and some are only available to certain groups of people such as women, children and minorities.  They're many men, who suffer with severe dental problems who do not get the care they need until it is too late.  It is true that it is cheaper to pull a tooth, than to fix a tooth, but the problem is that pulling a tooth does not always solve the problem.

If a person has enough teeth pulled, they eventually will need dentures, which are full sets of false teeth.  A full set of dentures, plus the cost of the extractions to remove the teeth is actually way less expensive than what it would cost to repair the existing teeth.  Now, if this solved all of the problems for the patient, this would be great.  Sadly, pulling out painfully infected teeth is just a way of making the pain more tolerable.  Often times, once a tooth has become infected enough to remove, the infection has spread to the gums and bones.  This infection can slowly spread, causing bone loss in the mandible area, widespread infection throughout the body, and sepsis, which is a deadly blood infection.  You would think that since this is such a dangerous situation, that more would be done to promote free dental care to those in need, but unfortunately, there is not.  Since the clinics do exist, it is worth a try to see if you qualify for free dental care.  If you do not qualify, it may be useful to know that the doctors at these sorts of clinics are more willing to work with individuals on their payment arrangements, so you may be able to find a doctor who can accommodate your budgetary restrictions.
