Brushing and flossing daily are good habits that can help improve the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. However, these are not the only things that you need for your teeth to become stronger and your breath to smell fresher. The things that you eat and don't eat can actually have a strong impact on your dental health. The following are some foods that are good for your pearly whites.
Yogurt
Many know that yogurt contain live microorganisms that help promote good digestive system. However, not many are aware that this healthy treat can also have positive impact on your mouth and teeth. According to experts, your teeth undergo a process of demineralization, which instigates tooth decay, whenever the pH level inside your mouth falls to 5.5. An effective way to prevent acidity and maintain your mouth's normal pH level is by eating a few tablespoons of yogurt. Still, be sure to choose the unsweetened type so you do not have to worry about adding pounds on your waist.
Carrots
This orange produce has been known to provide us with Vitamin A that protects the eyes and skin. Plus, orange colored produce also has cancer-fighting beta carotene. Aside from these, you can also benefit from eating raw carrots. Snacking on a few pieces of carrot sticks a day could help increase the production of saliva, which is vital in the elimination of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms inside the mouth.
Moreover, this Bugs Bunny favorite also aids in caring for your gums and eliminating food particles and debris stuck between your teeth or other hard to reach areas inside the mouth. So the next time you hear your stomach grumbling, instead of grabbing a muffin, why not start snacking on a carrot stick or two?
Grapefruit
Studies have shown that consuming two grapefruits daily could lessen incidence of bleeding due to gingivitis. If you are a fan of this sour fruit, then you will not encounter problems eating it. However, if you are like some people out there who cannot eat sour fruits, there is no reason to fret. Some experts say that eating half a grapefruit can already provide you with significant health benefits.
Cranberries
Drinking coffee, eating tomato-based pasta, smoking and eating other colorful foods might leave permanent stains on your teeth. This is probably the reason why adults have teeth that are yellowish or brownish in color compared to children. Although there are many products out there that claim to whiten teeth, it is not advisable to use them because they might cause permanent damage to the teeth's enamel.
So what do you have to do in order to prevent staining? Eat some cranberries or gulp down unsweetened natural cranberry juice before you chow down foods that stain. Studies confirm that this scarlet fruit can protect your teeth from staining for up to three hours, provided you do not brush your teeth. So the next time you have a craving to drink wine, munch on spaghetti or simply have a caffeine break, you should not forget to grab a glass of cranberry juice first to protect your pearly whites.
Green Tea
Drinking green tea after every meal can help prevent cavities from forming. Thanks to catechins, the antioxidants found in green tea, bacteria that cause tooth decay are eliminated. Furthermore, green tea can also help boost your metabolism and battle bad breath.
However, if your bad breath is not caused by tooth decay, the problem might be with your intestines. Accumulated wastes can cause halitosis. To help clean out your gut, you might need to undergo detoxification process. You don't need to worry because there are products, such as Colopril, that can easily assist you in your efforts to cleanse your colon. Want to know more about this product?
