In coming years, Jaipur's transport system is going to have a complete makeover. This would change the transport scenario of the city forever.
Recently, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has finalized a work order for buying 400 luxury buses that includes 20 air-conditioned, low floor and semi-low floor buses from Ashok Leyland. To buy such large number of luxury buses, RSRTC would going to spend a hefty amount of Rs 120 crore.
RSRTC would buy these luxury buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and this purchase of buses would enable the Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd. (JCTSL) to strengthen their services more.
In the month of February, the Central Government of India has approved this proposal of purchasing 400 luxury buses. The centre has even sanctioned the proposal of buying 35 more buses for Ajmer and Pushkar town of Rajasthan.
These buses would solve the transportation as well as traffic problem of the city. They would be used for Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and operates within Jaipur city and its nearby areas. Even the State government is looking forward to create a new scheme for improvement of transport system in the state. Apart from regular fitness tests that are conducted on the minibuses, the State government is trying to find out some more options to improve the transport system.
The government is studying a proposal to give concession to the senior citizens of the state. Even in the modified State budget of the year 2009-2010, RS 25 crore has been specially sanctioned for concessional travel in RSRTC buses. The amount would be given to the RSRTC to pay for the concessions.
Also to facilitate passengers more, RSRTC has decided to build Sulubh complexes in the 10 bus stands of the state and has decided to allow free travel by women on special occasions like Rakshan Bandhan day.
