Since World War I, Alicante has become one of the fastest growing cities in Spain, due in large part to increasing tourism. In addition to its great natural beauty, the climate is ideal. Average temperatures range from lows in the 40's to highs in the 80's, and only 37 days of the year (on average) are rainy. The harbor at Alicante is a port for many cruise ships, and there is regular ferry service to the Balearic Islands and Algeria, as well as the Alicante Tram connecting passengers to other points on the Costa Blanca. If you are looking for nightlife, this town offers a wide and delightful variety. At about 4:00 p.m. many of the cafes where you can relax during the daytime are transformed into lively discos that do not close until dawn.
