Auckland Historic Attractions, fascinating sites for the history buff

Auckland is a city which contains numerous tourist attractions, with many of them having great historical value. Featuring many of New Zealand's most esteemed historical structures Auckland is always a captivating city to explore.

Acacia Cottage, located in Auckland's Cornwall Park in the centre of the city, has the distinction of being among the city's most ancient buildings, having been constructed in the 1840s. It is a significant tourist destination today, with many foreign travellers visiting the site.

The Auckland Town Hall is a landmark that should feature in every visitor's itinerary. Featuring attractive Italian-inspired architecture and dating to the early years of the 20th century, the Town Hall has established its status as one of the city's most admired edifices. It features two expansive halls which are made use of for significant events and concerts.

For the enthusiast of historical buildings, no trip to Auckland would be complete without a visit to Alberton House, a residence constructed approximately 150 years ago. At the time of its construction it was one of the most opulent residences in the area, and even today retains its allure. The Auckland Harbour Bridge is among the city's most recognizable sights. The magnificent Highwic House located in central Auckland dates to the 19th century and boasts some of the most lavish features of the era including valuable paintings, elaborate décor and elegant antique furniture. The building has the distinction of being New Zealand's finest surviving example of the timber Gothic style of architecture.

Of significant interest is the unique Ferry Building which dates to the early years of the 20th century. After a recent renovation and refurbishment the building now features a fashionable bar and restaurant.
