Jobs – if you are looking for work in Crete then it will depend on your availability, many of the jobs available are bar or waiter jobs which are popular with students looking to work for the summer. The work is hard and the hours are long so bear this in mind before you rush your decision.

Mosquitoes – mosquitoes are very common in Crete and you can find a variety of repellents from tablets, nets, lotions, sprays and room plug-ins. A mixture of these will keep you mosquito free for your trip.

Nai – this translates to yes in Greek, you can also nod your head downwards to say yes.

Ohi – this translates to no in Greek; you can also nod your head or eyebrows upwards to say no.

Passports – like many other countries in the world you will need to keep a valid passport or identity card with you for leaving and entering the island, ensure your children have their own or are on yours.

Public transport services – the public bus service is run by a company called KTEL and they run a comfortable and cheap service for travelling between towns on the island.

Renting vehicles – to rent any motorised vehicle in Crete you will need to have a driving licence for at least a year and most rental companies will require you to be over the age of 21. Renting scooters will also require you to have a 12 month old licence.
