Car Hire in Florida: Stepping Away From Disney

For many who visit the state of Florida, the theme parks of Walt Disney World are a big attraction for tourists.

Every year, thousands of tourists of all ages flock to Florida to take in the sights and sounds of Disney World and the thrill of the roller coasters at the surrounding theme parks.

However, there are many who choose to step away (or drive in this case) from the world’s most famous mouse and make use of car hire in order to take in some of the other sights the state has to offer.

There are a variety of different sights to enjoy for those wanting to make the drive out of Orlando and take in some more of the Sunshine State.

From the bustling cities of Jacksonville and Miami, to the multitude of coastal resorts, there are many places to relax and enjoy a break in the tropical climate.

Another tourist draw for the state is the Kennedy Space Centre – which has exhibits from previous shuttle launches, as well as IMAX theatres and shuttle bus tours around the complex and launch sites.

If you’re lucky enough to be holidaying during the time of a shuttle or rocket launch you can view the launch from a number of viewpoints around the complex, and from vantage points around the local area.

With mile upon mile of coastline and a number of beach resorts – from Clearwater to Cocoa Beach – car hire in Florida allows the chance to take in some of the many areas of natural beauty that Florida has to offer.

Taking a short drive over the Overseas Highway leads you from the mainland into the Florida Keys – an archipelago of around 1700 islands surrounded by coral reefs.

Fly-drive holidays and car rental are popular amongst tourists who want to visit the islands. One of the most visited islands is Key Largo, popular with those looking to fish, dive and enjoy a slice of the Key Lime pie that has become synonymous with the island.

For those looking to take in the more picturesque areas, it’s best to head south. The lush environment of the Everglades is one of the most recognisable areas of the state, and is a popular area for eco-tourists and those looking to take in a ride on an airboat, as well as seeing a few alligators along the way.
