Commuting in the city is very convenient with the Muni Metro (rail/subway system) and the bus network which includes the trolleybuses. Down by Fisherman’s Wharf, the grounds are flat so I recommend walking and soaking the atmosphere to its fullest. To commute through the sloped neighborhood hills, the Muni will serve you well.
When searching for cheap hotels in San Francisco, resist the temptation of staying far from the center. You do not want to waste your time and money fighting traffic. You should look at staying somewhere between Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf. From the information that I have gathered, you can find very attractive offers at several vacation deal websites, especially on Last Minute Travel. They seem to have really good deals, particularly for people ordering a package deal which include the flight and lodge. For big cities such as San Francisco, there are many deals in various price ranges depending on your needs.
