Crete Holidays Tips

If you are planning a trip abroad this summer then you should always contemplate a trip to one of the Greek islands. They have the clearest water with the warmest climate, the best for catching a tan. One of the most popular islands is Crete; it is the biggest of the Greek islands and is situated most southerly out of all of them.

Here are a few facts about the biggest of the Greek island that you may or may not know:

•    The island boasts an area of 8,260 square miles and is 160 miles long by 35 miles wide at their maximum points.

•    Crete has 600,000 inhabitants whose native tongue is Greek and the currency is the Euro since 2001.

•    There are five airports in Crete, the Akrotiri airport, the Heraklion airport, and the Sitia airport but you are only going to use three of them, the other two Timbaki and Kastelli are for military use only.

•    Crete is split up into four prefectures (Nomoi) Chania, Rethymno, Iraklio and Lasithi.

•    Crete's main source of revenue is through tourism or its agriculture where the olive tree has mass importance and Crete prides itself on its excellent olive oil. Like many other Mediterranean countries other produce such as grapes, oranges and greenhouse grown vegetables are also very popular.

Crete is simply a fantastic destination for anyone who is planning to catch a tan this summer, it has something for everyone whether you are young or old after something exciting or relaxing. Save money by researching before you go.
