If you are a person who loves a good holiday but prefers to be in a city then think of some of the cities below. They are hubs for people, but you can get a great boat trip around the city to see it in a different way to the normal boat trip.

Try a trip to Vancouver in Canada and get a ferry around the cvity. You can cross between the surrounding islands and the city to see some of the gorgeously verdant forests and snowy mountain peaks. The summer months are when the ferries run the most frequently, but they are still running in the winter, when there is the most snow.

San Francisco to Sausalito ferry, California, USA – its only thirty minutes long, but this amazing ferry ride will give you breathtaking views under the golden gate bridge and along the water way that locates Alcatraz and Angel island. San Francisco is however well known for fog so if you are going to take the ferry then try to go on a clear day or the views will be marred.

Now Orleans to Algiers – this is a great trip as the free stately ferry takes you back and forth between Algiers point and the rest of New Orleans.

Bosphorus ferry, Istanbul – taking you across the Bosphorus form the European part of Istanbul to the Asian part, you can see some beautiful sites including the minarets and palaces along the water. The open air ferry is a most unusual way to see the sites of the city.

Naples to Capri  ferry – the Naples to Capri ferry takes you along the bay of Naples and through to the blue grotto which is one of the most beautiful sights. Enjoy a glass of wine made with local grapes from the Vesuvius volcanic region, and see some of the most gorgeous backdrops.

Brisbane city cat – the city cats hover above the water and take you along the river and under the Storey Bridge. If you are feeling particularly adventurous then take a climb of the bridge, but be warned, it's not for the faint hearted!
