Fine dining in the Maldives
Here is some exciting news for food lovers in the Maldives!
It has been widely reported that Michelin-starred chefs including Tom Aikens and Igor Macchia are going to make their way to the Maldives for a culinary programme commencing this December and continuing into 2012 at Coco Palm Bodu Hithi.
This sounds pretty cool to me, as if the Maldives was not a fantastic enough island destination to get the freshest catch - you'll now have the chance to sample those same amazing products as they are given the royal treatment by some of the greatest chefs on the planet!
Billed as the ‘chef in residence' programme Bodu Hithi will play host to British, Italian and Australian chefs for one week each at this luxury resort where they will serve up bespoke dishes in the resort's very own Aqua restaurant. The top class chefs will concurrently run master-classes and demonstrations for guest participants and are set to dramatically enhance any luxury holidays you might have booked or planned for this cool island destination.
Michelin-starred British chef Tom Aikens - whose own restaurants include Tom's Terrace and Tom's Kitchen at London's Somerset House - will be resident on the island from March 19-26. He will be using local Maldivian ingredients to create his own bespoke dishes in Aqua. Should be a great experience for anyone lucky enough to be present at the hotel.
If your heading here on your Maldives holidays, the new programme will also see Italian chef Igor Macchia of La Credenza Restaurant in Piedmont visit from January 5-11. Before opening La Credenza, Igor worked in Michelin-starred restaurants including London's Le Gavroche, in Geneva's Restaurant du Lion d'or and Restaurant Bruneau in Brussels.
I love Italian food, but admittedly I've never had a Michelin starred chef cook me a meal, I imagine it will quite something and all set within the serenest of tropcical island surroundings which surely will enhance the overall experience even more.
Chef Tony Bilson - seen as something of a Godfather of Australian cuisine will kick off the programme with a visit to the island on December 5-11 - and demand will be understandably high.
