Fly Away to Florida

If you are planning a trip to Florida then you might be looking for some tips and hints on where to go and what to see. There are several hundred cities and towns in this American state so it makes sense do a little research before your trip so you can decide where you want to visit when you arrive.

Starting at the southerly side of the state, Miami lies at the heart of south Florida and close proximity to Cuba and many other countries in central and South America mean there is a heavy Latin influence to soak up during your time here.

West Palm Beach is a popular southeast travel destination and a more affordable alternative to Palm Beach. Key West boasts an impressive accolade of nightlife, fishing, diving and history. Water lovers will be kept happy with all the aquatic escapades and history enthusiasts will enjoy the Old Town with its art galleries, cafes and landmark sites such as the home of Earnest Hemingway.

In the other direction, southwest Florida is all about idyllic beach getaways and captivating countryside. One of the key attractions here is the Everglades, the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States and the ideal location for all kinds of outdoor pursuits, from camping and nature tours to kayaking and fishing.


Central Florida is an eclectic mix of old and new. Attracting millions of holiday makers every year, Orlando is home to some of the world's most famous theme parks. For more natural pursuits, Central Florida boasts the world's largest sand pine forest, encompassing 250,000 acres of the Ocala National Forest. Huge springs, twisting streams and scenic lakes make this a picturesque place to spend some time.

Northern Florida is different yet again and the state's capital city Tallahassee is located here. Some of most popular destinations in North Florida include Panama City Beach which overlooks the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and Jacksonville, the largest city in the sunshine state.

Another northerly city to look out for is St Augustine. Considered to be America's oldest city this hotspot is steeped in history and has a myriad of significant sites and museums to explore.

When it comes to booking your flights to Florida you have a few airports to choose from for touchdown as Florida has more large commercial airports than any other state in the US.

As the top US airport for international air cargo and the second busiest in the world, Miami International Airport handles over 70% of Florida's international flights.

Orlando International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and is located right in the heart of Florida just about 14kms to the southeast of downtown Orlando.

Tampa International Airport is located on the west coast, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, about 10km west of Tampa city centre and closer to the idyllic beaches of Florida's Gulf Coast.
