With most holidays in America we tend to associate the image of city breaks and shopping, they’re a rushed and hectic affair where you are cramming as much of the sights and activities as possible.
This doesn’t mean that all of America is a sprawling metropolis; there are plenty of quiet, scenic and relaxing holiday destinations on offer in one of the biggest countries on the planet. Sometimes all you’ll need to do is hire a car and journey out of the city. Massachusetts is one such holiday destination.
Massachusetts is home primarily to Boston, the historic and popular tourist spot. Behind New York it is one of the more popular shopping holiday destinations UK travellers go to. The fact that the glorious Cape Cod is just a few miles outside of the Boston City Centre means that when you have had your fill of Inner City Life you can escape to the more rustic charms of the countryside.
There are a number of popular tourist locations dotted all the way along the Cape, which is shaped like a large sickle. The island of Martha’s Vineyard is one such location, made famous as the filming location for the 70’s Steven Spielberg film, Jaws. Martha’s Vineyard is a quiet island with traditional housing and ferries crossing to the island multiple times daily meaning you can take the 7 mile trip any time of the day.
Whale watching is a popular activity all along the tip of the Cape, one such town right on the very end of the Cape is Provincetown, there are many boat trip organisations that can take you out into the Atlantic for a few hours and see Whales and Dolphins that congregate near the boat.
Many holidays to New England can be organised to split your time between the city of Boston and nearby Cape Cod, in fact many holidays have come about from people planning their trip without the travel agent and have made great savings on their holidays in America
