Fort Lauderdale Offers a Host of Exciting Yachting Opportunities

Boasting a year-round tropical climate and breathtaking, sun-drenched scenery, Fort Lauderdale is a stunning place to visit. Often referred to as the Venice of America due to its medley of canals – there is more than 160 miles of waterways – it offers up a superb selection of lush, natural habitats and exhilarating entertainment opportunities.

Located in the state of Florida, it lies along the Atlantic Ocean and is positioned just 23 miles north of Miami. Filled with a host of palm trees, golden sands and warm ocean breezes, it originally acquired its name after a string of forts was built on the site during the Florida War, which lasted from 1835 to 1842.

The city is now a hub for the manufacturing and maintenance of yachts and, due to its many waterways, offers up some outstanding yachting opportunities. It is also the site of the biggest boat exhibition in the world, the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, which attracts more than 125,000 people annually.

Not only that, but because of its close proximity to the Bahamas and Caribbean, it attracts many yachters who use Fort Lauderdale as a stopover destination. Yachting is also extremely popular in the city and, as such, there are 42,000 resident yachts housed there and around 100 marinas and boatyards.

Offering up a great way to explore the city, there are a number of yacht rental possibilities in Fort Lauderdale. Indeed, whether you want to take to the open waters for some deep-sea fishing or discover the city’s landmarks along the canals, there are a range of options available for visitors to take advantage of. What could be better than taking to your own private yacht to soak up the remarkable views scattered around?

To really get a feel for Fort Lauderdale, it can be worth renting a yacht to embark on some inner-city exploration. In addition to being able to take in the luxurious, million-dollar mansions dotted along the banks of the canals, it is also possible to dock at a number of the restaurants located on the Intracoastal Waterway, which is a great way to satiate your sailor’s appetite!

There is also a huge range of other activities to pursue, such as heading to Fort Lauderdale’s stunning beach or to one of its many parks. The Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a definite highlight and is home to a diverse array of wildlife, whilst the John U. Lloyd Beach State Park offers up a number of water sports, from surf fishing and canoeing to swimming.

Aptly named the Venice of America, this city is an amazing place to visit. In addition to the many yachting opportunities, there are more than 4100 restaurants and 120 nightclubs to discover in and around the area, as well as a number of fantastic Fort Lauderdale hotels to relax in. The result is impressive and visitors are guaranteed to come home with an abundance of unforgettable memories.
