Jamaica waterfalls are many and majestic in every way

Jamaica has many famed extravagant water falls known for their majestic splendor and natural beauty. The Dunns River Falls may have come to mind immediately as it is the most popular on the island. However, there are others which are just as stunning as the Dunns River Falls.

Reach Falls is as imposing as any other and making a reputation as well. Nestled in the parish of Portland it is just a few miles away from Port Antonio. Around Reach Falls the bio-diversity is rich as the natural fauna and flora compliment the sound of gushing cascading water.

YS falls is another imposing body of water cascading majestically. YS Falls consist of seven breath-taking waterfalls surging into natural pools. With the atmosphere fitting for the purpose this is also just perfect for picnic and group parties.

The physical attributes of Jamaica‘s hilly terrain along with the bio-diversity facilitate these wonderful falls. Jamaica is quite hilly with over fifty percent of the land stands 350m above sea level.

There are three main groups of mountains in Jamaica. The Blue and John Crow mountains which are formed on the eastern end of the island are the tallest. Then the central mountain ranges which are called the Cockpit Mountains largely made up of limestone. The third group of mountains are the Dolphin Head and it surroundings in the west.

All of these mountains have a plethora of rivers and springs originating in them. Some of these rivers scuttle on the surface while others travel underground before making an exit upward.

Most of the rivers are originated in the centre of the island then finding their way to the open ocean.  Fortunately water is quite malleable it is able to squeeze through rocks, tumble, roll, fall and still remain in its perfect form.

This is exactly why Jamaica has so many waterfalls. With over a hundred and twenty rivers all heading towards the open ocean they roll down slopes, tumble through rocks, cascading down hundreds of meters in the process forming another extravagant Jamaican falls.
