Kaneohe – A Paradise In Disguise

Kaneohe is spread in an area of nearly eight square miles; nearly one fifth of it is water. This place along with Kailua makes up the biggest residential complex. In Hawaiian language, the term Kaneohe means Bamboo man. The name Kaneohe has been given to the district based on an old story of a woman, who was a resident of Hawaii. There she compared malevolence of her husband to that of an edge of cutting bamboo. Kaneohe was previously very popular for its agriculture due to the abundant rain which this place receives. But, now this place has no such important agriculture business apart from good banana plantations.

In the early period of the 1900’s, a lot of sugar plantations and refineries were established in and around this place. The cultural heritage of this land is however very much diverse because of the immigrants from the adjoining regions. But in the second World War, all was destroyed and the fertility of the land was lost. However, it has been restored and now rice plantations are very much abundant.

Kaneohe is a beautiful paradise located in the south eastern part of the Oahu Island and it extends till the Kaneohe bay from the hill of Koolau. It offers some of the best recreational activities for the locals and tourists with sandy beaches that prove to be a promising tourist destination. Lanikai and Kailua are two very popular and beautiful beaches. The beaches have some of the best reefs and provide a marvellous scenic view.

The Botanical Garden of the Kaneohe is one of the most beautiful places of the Kaneohe. It is spread over an area of more than four hundred acres. It is located at Luluku Road. Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden’s itself a part of the larger Botanical Gardens. The garden was established in 1982, when Army Corps of the Engineering Wing thought of protecting this area from flash floods. There is no entry fee for this garden for any guest.

Sea Life Park is another very important must visit place in Kaneohe. It enhances the beauty of this place. Here one gets an opportunity to have interactions with exotic sea life and animals. It is a place where one can take a dive and swim alongside dolphins, sea lions turtles and fishes. One can watch a live penguin show here. It is a place where a human can see the sea life closest, apart from the deep blue seas. The Park also boast of having theatres and lagoons, number of facilities like dressing rooms, parking and personal lockers for the safety among numerable others.

Kailua Beach Park is ranked among the top beaches of the world where one can take up many recreational activities and swim as well. It has been given the status of the best beach numerous times.

Windward Mall is one of the biggest business arenas in the Hawaii. There are a large number of shops here where people can find different species of goods with a taste of beautiful Hawaiian touch to them. There are a number of boutiques as well.
