Kenya a Country of Contrast - Travel Kenya - Kenya Africas' Safari Destination

Kenya is a country of contrasting landscapes and environments that make it a tourist destination of choice, from the great Savannah in Mara, snow-capped mountains of Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro, the clear coral reefs and white sandy beaches at the Kenyan coast, the shrub covered semiarid areas of northern Kenya.

With its size being about 583,000 square kilometers and  equator passing around its middle. Kenya offers you the opportunity to explore its richness in its natural habitats and outstanding Kenyan people with diverse cultures.
Kenya is surrounded by Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and the Indian Ocean on its East.

The Great Rift Valley runs down from Lake Turkana down to the Kenyan coast. Many lakes dot the entire stretch of the valley where numerous volcanic mountains and jaggered escarpment form beautiful landscapes.
Some of the Lakes in Rift Valley include lakes Turkana, Naivasha, Elementaita, Nakuru, Bogoria and Baringo.
The Mountains found in the Valley include the dormant volcanic Longonot on the floor of rift valley.

The central highlands are the most fertile parts of Kenya and border the Aberdare Ranges with temperatures of about 10-14 degrees and high of 22-28 degrees.
The vegetation is dense tropical forests and thick mountainous forests and alpine vegetation.
The rainfall varies from 20 mm -200mm falling in March/June and October/November. The main activity is farming due to the favorable climatic conditions.
Tourist activities in this region include visiting the Aberdare National Park, Meru National Park, mountain climbing, fishing, hiking and many more

The Kenyan Lake side in Western of Kenya is humid, dry and the rainfall spreads throughout the year. The Kakamega forest is in Western province and is a rich tropical forest with diverse types of birds in their natural habitat. It a heaven for bird watchers and photographers in Kenya. <BR>
The main economic activity along the Kenyan lakeside is fishing at Lake Victoria the second largest fresh water lake.
Tourists visiting this area enjoy a visit to the Kakamega forest for bird watching, photography and many more.

The coastal region is mostly a tourist zone and is hot and humid all year with low rainfall.
The cold sea breeze sweeps through the land lowering the temperatures during the day.
The temperatures usually range from 22-30 degrees all year.
The region has the largest tourist establishments and the best in the country. The white sandy beaches are an attraction on their own where visitors enjoy sun bathing, various water sports, a visit to the mangrove forests, marine parks and many more.

The Northern parts of Kenya have temperatures varying from 20-40 degrees and have poor rainfall distribution.
The area is very dry, bushy and dotted with shrubby deserts.
The economic activity in this zone is rearing of sheep, cattle, camels which keep on being moved from one area to the other in search for fodder and water. It’s mostly inhabited by nomadic communities like the Samburu.
Tourist activities include camel riding, visiting Lake Turkana, Marsabit National Reserve, Malka Mari National Park and many more
