Henry Kahuki is an online Africa safaris consultant based in Kenya. The operator of Magical Africa safaris Ltd. http://www.magicalafrica.net an eco-friendly safari agency catering for family safaris, senior travels, individual safaris and camping offers comprehensive safari arrangements in Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, http://www.magicalafrica.net/Kenya-walking-and-cycling-safaris.htm lodge bookings, budget camping wildlife safaris in Kenya, luxury safaris, hotel reservations in Kenya, mount Kenya hiking and self drive 4x4 car hire.
For those golfers who enjoy country side with views and views, practicing your swing in Kenya could not be better as they just mastered the art of golf safaris and did it well.
There is no better place to enjoy a round and watch the sun set with tropical green mixed with year round warm climate and endless opportunities with no crowds.
You will for sure spot the wildlife laze and watch the game too. The color full bird life will fetch the ball with you – but that we cannot promise that bit.
Kenya is home to over 37 golf courses. Most were made during the colonial British era. The country is home to the magnificent safaris, amazing wildlife and stunning sceneries that movie makers just discovered, go ahead and ask Angelina Jones.
At the International Association of Golf Tours Operators (IAGTO) awards 2009. They just named Kenya ‘The Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year.’ The purpose polished resorts offering international cuisine are all award winners in their own different ways.
Names like Mr. Berkley Mathews, Ballesteroes and Woosnam are a common feature. Vijay Singh got started off in Kenya years ago.
A Kenyan safari holiday could be captured to run together with the world best wildlife safari opportunities, married with golf breaks in Nairobi city, upcountry and eventually coastal. That can take about 8 days or so to enjoy a comprehensive memorable safari and golf package.
Some of the Kenya’s finest golf resorts include Sigona Club, founded around 1938. The clubs eighteen – hole course, offers its members most beautiful fairways and only 18 kilometers from Nairobi city.
Muthaiga Golf Club lies at the edge of the most preserved forest in Nairobi. It’s a convenient swing from your Nairobi base. This course is classified as the most challenging of all for both professional and amateur players. Bunkers are located on the fast paced greens resulting to players spending lots of time in the bankers.
Located on the foot hills of Mount Kenya is Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Golf Course, nine hole course is strategically placed next to the awe inspiring sight of Kenya’s largest Mountain popular with mountain climbers and technical hikers.
Fairmount is originally the retreat of movie star and club founder, William Holden. Former members include Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. Herds of Zebra and giraffe roam peacefully under the warmth of Kenyan sun.
Windsor Golf Resort is a master piece; some times we wonder why The Trump Corporation has not tried to put in some money on it.
Just outside Nairobi city, the course is defined by it’s high and low terrain as it threads its way through coffee farms and forestation giving itself character and design quality. Windsor is located a mile above the sea level and boasts of lush fairways, fast greens, attractive water hazards and some 73 well located sand bankers.
Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort together with Nyali Golf & Country Club are both situated along the white sandy beaches of the Kenya’s coastal line. This stunning stretch of coastal line, views of the calm blue waters of the Indian Ocean is full of fun activities for those looking for an afternoon break away from golf to enjoy the never ending tranquility.
My advice to the those seeking a sport holiday break with a combination of golf and safari adventure, lease out the clubs in Nairobi and enjoy a ten days package to include two nights accommodation in Nairobi. Play at both Windsor and Muthaiga then take a two hour drive down the rift valley, stopping at Limuru Golf and Country Club to enjoy the cool climate and the smell for the popular tea farms.
The third night accommodation at The Great Rift Valley Golf Resort is well worth the drive. Carefully designed by Thomas Fjaasd, the ground was described by the Irish professional David Jones as the best young course he has ever played on. He broke the 71 par here.
After you enjoy the stunning rift valley views and the picturesque escarpment take a short drive in Lake Nakuru National Game Reserve, made popular by the resident white rhinos and millions of pink flamingos, if it’s your luck day the leopard’s family will be looking down at you from the acacia trees as you drive out.
On the fourth or fifth night my advice is pack the clubs and make the whole Kenya holiday worthwhile to your wife.
Take a three hours drive or a 45 minutes scheduled flight into the world renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve, stay in for three or two nights and as you think of how well you could have played at the rift valley resort, she will be marveled by the abundant wildlife scenes and will most likely than not take that much talked about hot air Balloon dawn trip.
Now, after Masai Mara you will fly down to the coast and wrap up your holiday with a tee off at Nyali beach course.
Credible rumor has it that Ronald Trump is currently pursuing a multi million dollar deal to rehabilitate the Nairobi Railway Golf Course, we all know what that can only mean if all works out. Has he ever failed in any of his ambitions?
Wish to experience a piece of the green pearl? Go Kenya.
