If you are seeking a place to wind down and enjoy your stay on San Juan Island then Lime Kiln Park is definitely the location to be. Providing a great soothing area for you to keep things calm and enjoy the setting sun, or possibly catch a peek at the Orcas that should be in the waters very near to you. To access Lime Kiln Park you will be taking the West Side Road that leads you straight into the park. There's sure to be some strong winds along the shoreline and the sightseeing which is accessible to you is going to complete the trip. With rocks against the coast and huge cliffs roaring up the sides of the hills you'll be able to kick back and really take in everything the park has to offer.

There are two hiking trails within the park known as Shoreline and Upland that are sure to provide a perfect hiking experience for you and your family. Around 2000 a project was set in place to make newer and more effective facilities within the park to make it more functional and enjoyable.

If your setting out to the marine watching area you'll find that the path to get there is plenty wide and has been kept up well through the years. Be on the watch for the likely sights of Orcas, porpoises, otters, seals and Minke Whales. There's an occasional deer or fox here and there that is sure to add some excitement to your holiday. At the marine observing location you are able to head north down to the lighthouse where tours are given to everybody which will provide you with a greater knowledge of their background and some details about them.

Further down from the lighthouse you will find some more trails that lead to the lime kilns. Narrow and a little adventurous in a few areas, it may not be well suited for everyone as it can get a little scary. The kilns were built in 1860 and are used to manufacture steel, plaster, cement, and also paper. Lime Kiln Park is an outstanding location to take the household, your dog, or simply to wind down on your own and enjoy the scenery.
