Lisbon’s Famous Sports and Activities

Lisbon is not only a city of museums, churches, gardens, palaces, beaches and monuments, it also offers a wide variety of sports and other activities for the locals as well as the tourists. All these fun activities become available within minutes of the arrival of the tourists in the city.

Golf

Lisbon and the surrounding areas are very popular with golfers because of the excellent year round climate and fantastic natural surrounding.

The Clube de Golfe do Paco do Luminar

The Clube de Golfe do Paco do Luminar is a 9-hole golf course built by an American golfer named Gary Grandstaff and is one of the most popular golf courses in Lisbon. It is located within the city limits and also hosts a restaurant and clubhouse for the golfers to relax after the tiring game.

Lisbon Sports Club

Another wonderful golf course is located at the Lisbon Sports Club, which provides an excellent golfing experience in a club environment. The service and facilities at the Lisbon Sports Club are not motivated by any commercial intent. The shorter par 4s is excellent for the longer hitter. The greens and the fairways are true and fair. There are no commercial or residential buildings around the course.

International Equestrian Jumping Competition

If you are adventurous and visiting Lisbon in the month of June, do take part in International Equestrian Jumping Competition. This off beat competition has been held for the past 86 years. The event is replete with traditional pomp and show. The venue of the event is Campo Grande Hippodrome, Lisbon.

Walking Tours in Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the most interesting cities in the world and there is no better way of seeing it closely than by walking through its streets and roads. You will enjoy guided tours of the magnificent castles, royal palaces, monuments, gardens and churches.

Lisbon Bike Tour

Biking through the city is yet another fast and easy way to see the town. The Lisbon Bike Tour begins from the top of Parque Eduardo VII near El Corte Inglês and ends by the river Tejo in Torre de Belém. This is the spot from where the ancient sailors started their voyages to discover the New World.

The expedition lasts nearly three and a half hours with stopovers at important points in the historical city. You do not have to bike over the hills, the pathway is mostly flat. So it is easy for everyone to participate in it.

Surfing

The beaches of Lisbon are ideal for surfing especially during the rugby festival. If you are new to surfing or are not well trained, you can join a surf clinic. There are several surf clinics near Foz do Lizandro Beach in Ericereira, which is a Mecca for surfing in Portugal. The clinics have qualified surfing instructors.

The beaches are within 45 minutes drive from the city. You can spend your time lying on the sand, swimming, playing beach rugby or surfing. The beaches are ideal for the beginners as well as the veterans.

Football Stadium - Benfica and Estádio da Luz

Portuguese are passionate lovers of football. If you want to meet the typical Portuguese football lovers, there is no better place than Benfica and Estádio da Luz, which has a seating capacity of 66,000. It was renovated for the 2004 European championships. You will hear the cries of "Benfica, Benfica, Benfica" if a football game is going on.
