The London Dungeons is one of Great Britain’s foremost tourist attractions, which relates the horrors of medieval age and gory historical events to visitors. This themed attraction is located at Tooley Street close to the London Bridge rail station.
Focusing on the vibrant yet gory details of London most recent past, the London Dungeons was opened to the public in 1976 as a museum of the history of horrible events that the country’s capital has faced. However, with time the attraction progressed to what it is now, which involves actors and an interactive experience.
The London Dungeons highlights the likes of Jack the Ripper, the notorious murdered and Sweeney Todd, the demon Barber of Fleet Street. With means of re-enactments and narrations, visitors will be able to take a journey into 18th century, where the crimes took place.
Another attraction is the Great Fire of London that occurred in the late 16th century, which started at Royal Bakery in Pudding Lane causing most of the city to be burned to the ground. The exhibit showcases how the fire occurred and events that followed. Furthermore, the environment is set to make visitors perceive they are in the Great Fire of London.
One of the favoured attractions at the London Dungeons is the Extemis: Drop Ride to Doom. The exhibit, which was initiated in March of 2007, follows a theme where a criminal is sentenced to death by hanging at the Newsgate Prison. Visitors will be taken from the holding cell of the mock-up prison, and seated in a seat, which will be taken up to the Dungeons. Thereafter, the charges are read out and a noose is lowered and gallows are pulled by the hangman, visitors will be plunged into darkness onto the ground. Around this time, photographs will be taken of the descent.
The London Dungeons, which takes great, care to re-enact the horrors of London’s history, has become one of the city’s favoured tourist attractions. Indulge in this themed adventure while taking up accommodation at one of the London hotels. The Langham Hotel London which is one of the London luxury hotels, offers guests not only lavish comforts, with the likes of lush accommodation and quality but also offers warm hospitality and quality amenities.
