Manama – A city of culture and history

As the capital and the largest city in Bahrain, Manama offers an awe inspiring wealth of history and culture to indulge in. The cityscape is extremely modern but don’t let that fool you. There is still a strong traditional side to the city that is ever evident with the presence of mosques throughout the city.

Additionally there is also a reconstruction of a souq from the 1930’s that is well worth a look.

The Tree of Life is a unique attraction showcasing life thriving amidst the barren nature of the desert. This tree stands all by itself in the middle of the desert 1.2 miles from Jebel Dukhan in stark contrast to its surroundings.

Two important religious sites in Manama are The Al Khamis mosque and Barbar Temple. Al Khamis is one of the most iconic symbols of Islam and achieves this distinctive position through being one of the oldest mosques ever created. The architecture and history that the mosque offers makes it an essential part of any traveller’s itinerary.

Barbar Temple is actually an archaeological site located in the city of Barbar and that features 3 distinct temples that were built on the same location. Visitors can traverse this monumental location and discover how it once functioned during its heyday.
