Medical Tourism in Kerala

Kerala, the “God's own country” is embellished with tranquil backwaters, tempting beaches and lush green coconut groves. Every year thousands of tourists from across the globe comes here to explore the serene beauty of this southern Indian state. Of late, Kerala has attained a pride of place in the field of medicine. Medical tourism is the new facet of Kerala's tourism industry.

Medical tourism can be defined as “any leisure product where apart from travel package, one gets medical treatment at the best hospitals. The medical treatment for various ailments are packaged with leisure packages at luxurious tourist resorts.”

The Kerala state government in collaboration with the various tour operators, tour agents, hoteliers and with the people of medical field is trying to develop kerala as a world class destination for tourism and treatment. Currently, tourism industry of Kerala is promoting itself with several Ayurveda and health packages as because medical tourism has a tremendous potential to boom.

Kerala is renowned worldwide for its alternative medical therapies such as Ayurveda and traditional medicines. Each and every nook and corner of this scenic state has some wonderful centres for Ayurveda treatments. Ayurveda is an ancient form of treatment which enables the patient to rejuvenate and revitalize the mind, body and soul and it has abundant of well trained people who deals in this special form of treatment.

Beside Ayurveda, Kerala has an endless array of experienced allopathic medical professionals and well equipped hospitals that offer treatments of international standard at a very reasonable price. Previously, Indians especially Keralites working in foreign nations such as in Gulf countries always visit Kerala for medical treatment as it doesn't have much affect on their kitty.
