Grapes and Vine trees are extremely common in Mehmetcik and this has inspired organizers to name the festival with this title. The festival was announced to the public with a press conference that took place ten days before the actual event. The Mayor of Mehmetcik Ahmet Beyazit Adal?er attended the press conference with the Karpaz tourism advisor Zekai Altan and the festival organizing committee. Well known estate developer Ersav Homes, a PropertyNC client and regular attender of international exhibitions was one of the major sponsors of the events.

Adalier pointed to the 47 year history of festival and stated that years ago the aim of a festival in North Cyprus was to create shopping opportunities for the locals. He continues by saying that festivals before were more colourful and lively and that in the last couple of years cultural and art activities have decreased in number. Due to these reasons the organizing committee have decided to increase cultural and art activities in this years festival. With this festival the public gained the opportunity to watch 8 short documentary films four of these films belonging to Cypriots Uygar Erdim, Mustafa Fidan, ?erife Öztemiz, Tony Angostimiotis, the other four were produced by Tolga Örnek, Nebil Özgentürk, Fatih Orbay, Erhan Cerraho?lu.

As a first time event, this year a cultural and art street was established and was named ‘Kemal Tunç’ who is a famous Cypriot theatre actor who passed away not long ago on the 30th May 2007. this street now functions as a memorial for the famous actor. Hüseyin Koroglu who is wellknown for his active career in cinema, theatre and tv shows was also present at the festival.The festival also allowed many activities for the festival visitors and locals as well as tourist enjoyed the 10 day event. All age groups enjoyed the event and children competed at the Sand Sculpture competition that took place at the beautiful beaches of Bafra beach also gave place to the 1st Mehmetçik beach handball tournament in which 250 sportsmen attended.

Turkey’s first popular music idol ‘Erol Buyukburc’ entertained the audience with his overcrowded concert which took place on the 9th August. Many local singers also took stage at the event and Eylem Naz and FAtih Demir performed together on stage the final night of the festival.Sports activities were also popular at the festival and a handball tournament took its place on public beach in Bafra.Courses on how to prepare meals with wine were given to those interested. These 4 day courses started on the 6th August and attenders were given certificates at the end of the course.Ersav Homes a well known estate developer in Bo?az was the major sponsor of the festival and the only sponsor of the North Cyprus handball federation tournament. The company is a business run by father and son and has a history of 45 years. Director of the company Ersin ?emi expresses his happiness towards the outcome of the festival. When asked about his company Mr. ?emi states that the aim of their company, is to offer the highest quality buildings at the most precious of lands. Ersin Semi continues by saying that ‘Our customers are our most valuable asset and it will be easy for us to prove our words.

Cyprus Hotels Just come and see us.’Ersav Homes was a leading figure in the sponsorship of the 47th Mehmetçik Grape Festival and the whole festival area was filled with people wearing t-shirts and baseball caps with the Ersav Homes logo printed on them. At the end of the day the outcome of the festival pleased all, attenders, organizers and sponsors all experienced a pleasurable 10 day event
